One of the 'moments' in my life that took me back to photography and led me to doing it full time, was the COTA Jazz Festival in Gap. I was there with a long time friend to enjoy the music that weekend and during one of the performances on the outdoor stage, the sun began to set and cast the most absolutely spectacular light across the stage... I walked in as close as I could and managed to come away with this image. In many ways, it started me down the road I'm on now. This image is framed and on the wall above the door to my office. My wife has never let me take it down...

Typically this is a time when artists are coming together from great distances. Sometimes they have not seen each for a long time, others are meeting the idol they had coming up as a music student, some are getting to play together on the same stage for the first time. No matter what the circumstance, it's a great joy to be able to capture not only their performances together, but also some nice posed images that they can cherish for years to come.
Covering a music event is truly a passion. Most of the time I can be the silent witness, look for the moments, the light, and of course, enjoy the music.
Very often I have the opportunity to be on stage and moving around the artists, and get up close and personal, during rehearsals. I always ask permission first and ask them to tell me if my presence becomes a distraction... thankfully no one has ever asked me go away!
Amazing artists, wonderful people, great music and photography...
Photographer William Claxton was quoted as saying, 'Photography is jazz for the eye'.
Another example of pulling together some of the amazing people who develop, perform at, and sponsor music events.
Here we have the orchestrators of this event, executives from Yamaha Music who sponsored the event, and both international and local music icons and teachers.
